New Zealand Institute of Building

The NZ Institute of Building is the place where ambitious people from all across the construction industry transform, learn and connect.

New Zealand Institute of Building

We are the professional institute in New Zealand for persons engaged in building practice in a managerial, technical, or administrative capacity in construction, installation, designs or survey, and for those engaged in the teaching, science and practice of building and building research.

The New Zealand Institute of Building is an incorporated body whose members are drawn from the wider construction industry. It was established in 1983 on the initiative of members of the then New Zealand Chapter of the Australian Institute of Building which was founded in 1965.

The NZIOB is an organisation for all members of the building industry including:

Architects & Designers

Building Managers & Officials

Project Managers

Quantity Surveyors

Educational; Researchers & Teachers

Site Managers

Students / Graduates

Our current members include a range of persons from the above sectors of the industry and other building related professions.

The organisation consists of a National Council and three Chapter Boards; Northern, Central and Southern. These boards are based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch respectively, with branches also located in Northland and Waikato.

We strive to be an energetic, articulate and reliable stakeholder. To provide meaningful and relevant contributions to the ongoing development of our members career pathways.
