Arturo Tedeschi

9am - 10am 

Talk topic: Crossing disciplines with computational tools and methodologies 

Computational designers are for architecture and industrial design what producers are for music. Arturo Tedeschi will show how digital tools, methodologies and design-culture allow to cross the imposed boundaries among design, architecture, art and industry. From footwear to transportation design, from furniture to infrastructure the lecture will be a journey over ten years of built projects and advanced concepts with the common thread of research, style and innovation.   

Ergian Alberg and Laura Aquili

Ergian Alberg (1972) has worked over 10 years in graphic design, advertising and publications companies.

He obtained his Bachelor in Architecture and Master of Science with honour from Politecnico di Milano and TUDelft, Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands.

He participated in Architectural Masterclasses and Workshops throughout Europe, in particular Spain, Portugal and Holland where he began his professional career as an architect working @ Office for Metropolitan Architecture with Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam. In addition, he worked within the research & in-store technology at AMO, for the PRADA stores in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

He worked @ ONL with Kas Oosterhuis and Ilona Lenard, exploring parametric design and innovative mass-customization processes using the -File to Factory- technology. He has been teaching @ Delft University of Technology: Hyper-interactive-architecture.

He also worked as project architect for different scale projects, from product design to architecture.@ UNStudio with Ben van Berkel & Caroline Bos in Amsterdam and in London @ Zaha Hadid Architects.

In 2004 he started up a Zaha Hadid Architects office in Beijing, China, where he has been responsible for 1 Million sqm Masterplan project.

His work has been published and show-cased worldwide.

He writes about architecture and design for italian magazines and newspapers such as Il Sole24Ore, Interni, L’Arca, Progettare and Industria delle Costruzioni.

In 2006, along with Laura Aquili he founded AQUILIALBERG ARCHITECTS.

Laura Aquili (1973) studied Architecture in Milan at Politecnico di Milano where she graduated with honour, exploring new concepts in the fields of landscape design, conservation and architectural design.

She participated in Architectural Masterclasses and Workshops throughout Europe. After intense and enriching work experience in Holland, she joined the office ONL working with Kas Oosterhuis and Ilona Lenard in Rotterdam, exploring parametric design and experimental programmatic structure for the exhibition NON Standard Architecture at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris.

She worked at Massimilianio Fuksas office in Rome and @ Zaha Hadid Architects, commuting between the London and Beijing offices. She worked on the futuristic project -Future Home- for the Beijing Urban Planning Bureau committment taken on by Soho China Ltd, an experimental, visionary and extreme language for future living and on the exhibition -Salieri sulle tracce di Mozart- at Palazzo Reale in Milan for the re-opening after the renovation of the Teatro alla Scala.

Her work has been published and show-cased Worldwide.

11am - 11.30am - MORNING TEA BREAK 

Chantal Matar from Zaha Hadid Architects

11.30am - 12.30pm

Chantal will talk about different technologies used abstract generative art such as After Effects. Adobe After Effects is a powerful digital visual effect and compositing software by Adobe Systems that is used in film making, different media production, and Motion Graphics. Chantal will explain hows he uses After effects in architecture and design. 


Chantal Matar is an architect and visual artist, born in Beirut and based in London. Her work explores liminal margins between abstract and conjecture generative art where spatial understanding is continuously changing.

Since 2018 Chantal has been working at Zaha Hadid Architects as a Senior Architect on various high-end international projects in different stages.

Blending her long experience in architectural design and knowledge of digital tools, Chantal aims her exploration at alien landscapes, linear formations and digital strata that lie on the threshold of spatial chaos and structural continuum.

Volkan Alkanoglu

Talk: Computational Design

His work is interested in re-appropriating paradigms of design typology through creative interventions. The objective is to inspire a discourse on how to occupy public domain by forming opportunities for social inhabitation. Part of this mission to investigate and transform the built environment, is to implement innovative techniques, new methods of make and sustainable systems.


PROFILE | Volkan Alkanoglu

Volkan Alkanoglu is the founding principal of VA | DESIGN LLC. He is an artist and designer whose innovative work and academic contributions have received international recognition. He has contributed to design and research in the field of public art and sustainable projects and received awards and recognition for visionary spatial designs, art installations, exhibitions, product design, and sustainable environments. 

Prior to opening his own practice, he has worked as a designer for creative practices such as Future Systems in London and Asymptote Architecture in New York. 

His public art work has been permanently installed in several institutions within the Unites States including Clemson University, Boston - Clippership Wharf, University of Maryland, Yeshiva Museum, Fort Lauderdale International Airport, University of Oregon, the Salt Lake Community College, Georgia Institute of Technology, U.S. Cellular Centre in Cedar Rapids, Washington Metropolitan Police Training Facility, Fort Lewis College and the University of Colorado in Denver. 

Within his academic background, he was previously appointed as the Director for Graduate Studies at Georgia Tech and held faculty positions at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania and most recently Harvard University, Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, MA. 

VA | DESIGN is currently working on a range of public art projects in California, Iowa, Colorado, Maryland and Texas.

Antoni Rajwer

Antoni will discuss the new technologies in relation to the built environment in terms of weathertightness, airtightness and healthy homes.
