Event Description

1pm - 2pm | Rothoblaas | Sebastian James | Engineer

Synopsis: Innovative reversible connectors for hybrid timber construction – RADIAL & RING

These multi-directional, reversible connection systems have been engineered to enhance prefabrication efficiency, structural performance, and Design for Disassembly (DfD) in modern timber and hybrid buildings. We’ll discuss their experimental characterisation, mechanical behaviour under different loading conditions, and their applications in Timber, Steel and Concrete. Learn how these connectors combine high stiffness, resistance, and ease of assembly with the growing demand for sustainable and demountable construction solutions.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the engineering principles behind reversible connectors: Gain insight into the design concept, structural behaviour, and testing outcomes of the RADIAL and RING systems for multi-directional timber connections.
  • Learn how to apply RADIAL and RING in hybrid and prefabricated timber structures: Explore practical use cases, from CLT and glulam assemblies to timber-to-steel and timber-to-concrete joints, improving constructability and performance.
  • Recognise the role of connection design in sustainable construction: Discover how reversible connectors support Design for Disassembly (DfD) principles, enabling reuse, efficient prefabrication, and reduced on-site time.

2pm - 3pm | Chris Ross | Technical Manager |Allco Waterproofing

Synopsis: Exploring Green, Warm, and Purple Roof Systems: Designing for Performance and Sustainability.

In this CPD presentation, Chris Ross will cover green roofs and hybrid roofing system, where sustainability meets performance. We'll explore the key design principles behind successful green roof implementation, hybrid systems that combining green and warm roofs, and "purple roofs" that incorporate water management strategies. This session will also highlight membrane compatibility, vegetation selection.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Designing Green Roofs - critical design considerations for green roofs, including structure, slope, drainage and common limitations.
  • Membrane Compatibility - learn which waterproofing membranes are suitable for green roofs.
  • Environmental and Functional Benefits - understand the environmental advantages of green roofs, including stormwater management, biodiversity, and urban heat island reduction.
  • Purple Roof Systems & Warm Roof Build ups - Discover the potential of hybrid roof systems and the updates on our Alltherm Warm Roof configuration with no cover board, delivering enhanced flexibility in design.
