Talk topic: A review of how the building sector can tackle the issue of embodied carbon and help build a low carbon future

A review of how the building sector can tackle the issue of embodied carbon and help build a low carbon future. The presentation offers an introduction to building sector emissions, both operational and embodied carbon and best practices for low embodied carbon design.

Learning Objectives:

Climate change:

  • What are the impacts of climate change and what targets are in place to limit its damage?
  • What is the role of the building sector?

Embodied carbon

  • The growing importance of embodied carbon over a buildings lifecycle.
  • Carbon reduction of offsetting.
  • Moving towards low carbon and carbon neutral materials.
  • Net-zero roadmaps to achieve net-zero by 2050.
  • Design considerations for reducing whole-of-life embodied carbon.

Talk topic: The evolution of pocket doors in NZ

This presentation takes participants through 40 years of evolution of pocket door systems in NZ. From the early days of complicated systems with limited functionality, to the development of folding, and large format pocket doors, up to today with the launch of new generation pocket door systems like the Hawa Concepta III in mid-2024. New systems like the Hawa Concepta III will revolutionise the way pocket doors are experienced by consumers, installers and designers, making the systems more accessible, and less problematic – for all stakeholders. We run through the key advantages of new Pocket door systems, and how to specify them effectively into your projects.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn about important new features of the latest range of pocket doors available in New Zealand
  • Learn how to specify pocket doors effectively into your projects
  • Learn about some of the potential pitfalls of pocket door design, and how to avoid them
