Murray Durbin has been involved in Certified Passive Houses for around a decade, and was a founding Trustee of PHINZ, as well as holding General Manager positions for two insulation manufacturers. He is now a Director of Enveloped, a business setup to help home-owners, builders, and designers create healthier and more efficient homes. The presentation will look at changes to H1 for both insulation and window joinery, design tips to improve thermal performance in roofs, walls and floors, air-tightness to improve insulation, over-heating, and alternative verification methods to exceed H1.

Omega Windows and Doors
The presentation will cover the thermal performance of windows and doors. Firstly I will cover the changes to H1 and the implications for aluminium windows.
I am then going to talk about the importance of good thermal design and how windows contribute to the loss and gain of heat in a building.
I will be covering how to work out the overall U value and R value of a window, and what these numbers mean/ how to improve them.
Different types of aluminium framing (traditional vs thermally broken) and how different glazing units can affect the performance of the whole window system.
I will also cover the materials that make up a high performing window, and a basic rundown on the manufacturing process.
