Achieving Durable Below-Ground Waterproofing: A Focus on Integral Solutions and Design Best Practice

In this CPD we will explore best-practice approaches to below-ground waterproofing, with a focus on the principles of integral waterproofing and the role of concrete as part of the waterproofing system. As British Standards (BS 8102:2022) continue to influence New Zealand’s waterproofing expectations, understanding the differences between Type A, B, and C systems is increasingly important.

We explore what integral waterproofing means in practice, why it matters for long-term durability, and how to incorporate it effectively at the design and construction stages. We will also cover how membrane systems (Type A) and concrete admixtures (Type B) can be combined to meet the performance needs of today’s complex builds. As a supplier offering both Type A and B solutions, Allco is uniquely positioned to support a complete below-ground strategy.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Define integral waterproofing and explain its role in below-ground design.
  • Differentiate between Type A and B systems and understand their respective applications.
  • Recognise the critical design and site considerations when specifying concrete admixtures for waterproofing.
  • Understand the benefits of combining multiple systems to improve waterproofing redundancy and performance.

Alex Holly | Omega Windows and Doors

In this CPD Talk, we will explore design choices around windows and doors that can reduce the impact of the weather on joinery and supporting flashings. Specifying various configurations in order to achieve different ventilation, thermal performance and aesthetic goals.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • How to maximize natural lighting in medium density units.
  • Low cost ventilation strategies to maximize airflow for cost effective medium density housing.
  • How to specify glazing units in order to minimize solar heat gain in summer. Window placement and building orientation as an effective strategy for solar control.
