Event Description

The materials you choose don’t just shape a structure—they define its performance, efficiency, and long-term impact. At Teulo Ed: Advanced Materials for Energy Efficiency, we’re diving deep into the innovations that are changing the way we think about insulation, facades, and sustainable building.

Dyann Stewart | Facade Consultant | Technoform

Speaker BIO: Dyann Stewart is a highly experienced facade consultant with Technoform Bautec Asia Pacific. She has worked in the window and door industry since 1996, starting as a junior designer and progressing to technical roles, eventually becoming Group Technical Manager for a leading glass and window supplier.

Over the past 27 years, she has gained extensive experience in NZS:4211 testing, provided internal auditing services to IANZ accredited test laboratories, and participated in various on-site window and door tests in accordance with WGANZ 501 and 502 procedures. Dyann also has experience in Business Development and Commercial Management within the industry and holds a Bachelor of Business with a major in Management and a minor in Business Law.

Talk topic: Healthy Homes and external insulation

This presentation explores innovative approaches to designing and measuring the performance of walls for healthier homes. It highlights the chronic underheating of New Zealand homes and the impact of respiratory diseases linked to poor indoor environments. The presentation delves into the hidden problem of interstitial condensation in walls, the overstated performance of current wall insulation, and the importance of proper installation. Dyann contrasts traditional wall construction with externally insulated walls, showcasing the benefits of the latter in reducing condensation risks and enhancing thermal efficiency.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Understanding the Impact of Wall Construction on Indoor Health: Attendees will learn how different wall construction methods influence indoor temperature and humidity levels, and how these factors contribute to respiratory health and overall well-being.
  2. Identifying and Mitigating Interstitial Condensation Risks: Participants will gain insights into the causes and consequences of interstitial condensation within walls, and discover strategies to prevent this hidden problem through improved insulation practices and materials.
  3. Evaluating the Benefits of Externally Insulated Wall Systems: By the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to compare traditional wall construction with externally insulated wall systems, understanding the advantages in terms of thermal efficiency, condensation reduction, and long-term sustainability

Chris Ross | Technical Specialist | Allco

Speaker BIO: Chris has in depth experience of the construction industry. With over 20+years of experience as an Architectural Draughtsperson, liaising with architects, engineers, builders and contractors.

His vast skill base assists our sales and QA team, providing technical support across all our products, from assessing Geotech reports to reviewing project documentation and producing site specific CAD detailing and specifications.

Talk topic: Energy Efficiency: Integrating Waterproofing, Insulation & Sustainability.

We know the future of construction is energy efficient. In this CPD webinar, we will cover how to achieve higher levels of Energy Efficiency in your next project through efficient waterproofing systems combining weather tightness, insulation and sustainability while providing long-term durability.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Learn what warm roofs and green roofs are and how can they help you achieve H1.
  2. Additional efficiency benefits of PMR (protected membrane roof systems)
  3. Find out your options for waterproofing below ground with insulation.
  4. Understand what technical support is available to you.

Richard Hollard | Specification Manager | Pro Clima NZ

Speaker BIO: Richard has been working in the building industry for 17 years, including some time on the tools as an apprentice builder. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Ag) degree from Massey, and has always been interested to find out how things work. Richard enjoys being able to explain the science behind better building methods. He's experienced in communicating with designers, builders and homeowners. He also enjoys mountain biking, home renovations and landscaping. When he gets time, Richard also likes to spend time with his family in the outdoors.

Talk topic: High Performance wall assemblies.

In this presentation, Richard Hollard will be looking at two different methods of constructing thermally efficient walls, the first incorporates internal air & vapour control layers with a double layer of insulation, and the second being the ‘lightweight warm wall’ incorporating rigid underlays and Rock Mineral wool insulation. We will be discussing costs, benefits and limitations of each system.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Understand the different methods of constructing thermally efficient walls.
  2. Gain an understanding of how internal and air vapour control layers work.
  3. Introduction to lightweight warm wall insulation.
