Chantal Matar from Zaha Hadid Architects

Talk topic: After Effects

Chantal will talk about different technologies used abstract generative art such as After Effects. Adobe After Effects is a powerful digital visual effect and compositing software by Adobe Systems that is used in film making, different media production, and Motion Graphics. Chantal will explain hows he uses After effects in architecture and design. 

BIO: 

Chantal Matar is an architect and visual artist, born in Beirut and based in London. Her work explores liminal margins between abstract and conjecture generative art where spatial understanding is continuously changing.

Since 2018 Chantal has been working at Zaha Hadid Architects as a Senior Architect on various high-end international projects in different stages.

Blending her long experience in architectural design and knowledge of digital tools, Chantal aims her exploration at alien landscapes, linear formations and digital strata that lie on the threshold of spatial chaos and structural continuum.

Volkan Alkanoglu

Talk: Computational Design

His work is interested in re-appropriating paradigms of design typology through creative interventions. The objective is to inspire a discourse on how to occupy public domain by forming opportunities for social inhabitation. Part of this mission to investigate and transform the built environment, is to implement innovative techniques, new methods of make and sustainable systems.

BIO: 

PROFILE | Volkan Alkanoglu

Volkan Alkanoglu is the founding principal of VA | DESIGN LLC. He is an artist and designer whose innovative work and academic contributions have received international recognition. He has contributed to design and research in the field of public art and sustainable projects and received awards and recognition for visionary spatial designs, art installations, exhibitions, product design, and sustainable environments. 

Prior to opening his own practice, he has worked as a designer for creative practices such as Future Systems in London and Asymptote Architecture in New York. 

His public art work has been permanently installed in several institutions within the Unites States including Clemson University, Boston - Clippership Wharf, University of Maryland, Yeshiva Museum, Fort Lauderdale International Airport, University of Oregon, the Salt Lake Community College, Georgia Institute of Technology, U.S. Cellular Centre in Cedar Rapids, Washington Metropolitan Police Training Facility, Fort Lewis College and the University of Colorado in Denver. 

Within his academic background, he was previously appointed as the Director for Graduate Studies at Georgia Tech and held faculty positions at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania and most recently Harvard University, Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, MA. 

VA | DESIGN is currently working on a range of public art projects in California, Iowa, Colorado, Maryland and Texas.

Antoni will discuss the new technologies in relation to the built environment in terms of weathertightness, airtightness and healthy homes.
