“By working with us in the early stages of a project, architects and contractors can ensure that they are getting a fully compliant, fit-for-purpose barrier system,” says Nikki Fox, Business Development Specialist at Moddex New Zealand.
Moddex is Australasia’s leading manufacturer of handrail, balustrade and access way systems for large-scale infrastructure and non-residential construction products. When Teulo last caught up with them in early 2025, a key focus was on cementing their Ezibilt™ Ramp, Walkway and Stair system in the New Zealand market. Ezibilt™ started out as a system of ramps and stairs, but has since grown into service access, full-service stair platforms, and handrails. “We’re definitely seeing that system specified and used on a lot more projects, particularly in our work with schools to create ramps and disability access ways,” Nikki says. “Ezibilt™ is also becoming quite valuable in the civil and commercial space, with its new pre-engineered height of 4m and the ability to add platforms as well.”
Nikki is passionate about connecting with customers and providing them with thoughtful solutions to support their projects. “I work closely with architects and engineers to find out how we can help them. We know that our systems don’t suit every project, but my job is to raise awareness about the extensive products and resources we have available, and figure out ways to help where we can.”
One of the main ways that Moddex is helping industry professionals is by providing fully compliant systems that come with an approved Producer Statement - Design (PS1). “Every build requires PS1s,” Nikki says. “By providing these up front for all of our standard systems, Moddex can help industry professionals tick that box early. That way, they don’t have to come back to us to ask for PS1s later, and they don’t risk any compliance issues with their local council. One of the biggest challenges with commercial and infrastructure projects tends to be that the documents aren’t ready for signoff when they’re required. Having those PS1s already available can make life a lot easier.”
By involving Moddex in the design process, architects and contractors can also ensure that their project is being specified correctly. “Sometimes projects can be over-specified, with a system that costs more but isn’t actually needed for that site. When we can get involved early, we’re able to take a look at the drawings, provide markups, and present the best and most cost-effective option for the project to meet its compliance requirements. And then when it goes to the council, everything runs smoothly, with no need for changes or further documentation.”
Moddex’s deep expertise and practical resources make it possible for their customers to achieve seamless builds, Nikki says. “Our QS team, project managers, and product consultants are all experts in the compliance of access ways. Our product consultants can look at your requirements and know exactly what products are needed. The QS team will then take your drawing, mark up the compliant system onto it, and quote it for you. Our project managers are there with you on site to manage any changes and ensure that everything is delivered on schedule. We’re with you throughout the whole process to ensure that everything goes smoothly and we’re hitting your signoff times.”
In terms of resources, Moddex provides a suite of tools and information to help projects run more efficiently, including product specification sheets, an online BIM library, tailored CPD content, and their configurator tool. “You can find detailed information about all of our products on the Moddex website, along with a BIM library that’s compatible with Revit, Archicad and Autocad. All of our systems are in there and can be pulled into your drawings easily, saving you time to focus on the fun stuff!
“On the interactive side of things, we offer CPD presentations and presentations that are tailored to the types of projects your firm is working on. We also support customers by creating early concept models with our configurator to show you how an access way fits into your space and what it’s going to look like. We’re constantly refining the configurator to suit more sites, and it’s proving helpful for fire engineers with accessways and egress stairs. One other resource we offer that’s quite unique is, with every package that goes out, we’ll do a bit of a personalised video to talk you through it, so you really understand what we’ve quoted and why.”
The goal is to leverage the combined expertise and talents of the team to help and support customers, Nikki says, and this is what she loves most about being a part of Moddex. “One of our core values is making our customers smile; I think that’s really important. I love our collaborative approach as a team. We all work together and support each other to provide our customers with really great outcomes.”
Looking ahead, Nikki is excited to work more with landscape architects and design engineers. “A lot of our products, like Ezibilt™, Conectabal® and Bikesafe®, play really well in the public accessway spaces. We’re still learning all the ways that these systems can work in projects like bridges, shared pathways, and community spaces. We’re also looking closely at service access needs in emerging sectors like solar and wind farms, as we see these as areas for further exploration. Really, it’s all about finding ways to keep innovating and adding value as we work to keep New Zealanders safe.”
