“One supplier, one applicator, one warranty.”

“Our customers choose us because we’re trusted advisors who don’t take shortcuts,” says Tony Broome, CEO of Allco Waterproofing Solutions. “They know that we stand by everything that we do. If we’re suggesting a solution, it’s absolutely because it’s the right one for them, rather than the product we want to sell.”

Allco provides complete waterproofing solutions, from tanking to roofing, with end-to-end technical support that they say is second to none. When Teulo last caught up with the team in 2022, they were building their internal knowledge base and bringing in new talent and perspectives to continually improve on-the-job performance. “Education, both internally for our team and externally through CPD presentations, is a big part of what we do,” Tony says. “We’re committed to being best in class, and we’re proving that commitment on the ground, with 2,500 technical hours spent supporting applicators in the field over the last 12 months.”

"Our dedicated, nationwide TA (technical advisory) team provides on-site visits to ensure the quality of installation, guidance and support. The close monitoring of workmanship and site conditions ensure our team can identify potential issues and provide advice early in the piece," says Cristine Evans, Marketing Manager. “This proactive approach allows for timely adjustments, preventing costly rework or repairs. We’re the only ones in the waterproofing industry providing that level of support.”

Allco is also supporting the industry through recent CodeMark certifications across all of their major product categories: Volclay, Casali Bitumen, TPO, and Hydrotech, ensuring that customers will achieve full-envelope compliance, from top to bottom. “We’ve had the third-party BRANZ appraisal for a while now,” says Chris Ross, Product Specialist, “but CodeMark gives us a legal document that we can supply to councils. Having that added level of assurance eliminates barriers for our customers and reduces the likelihood of RFIs from their local authority.” “The Hydrotech membrane, in particular, is unique,” Cristine says. “It's certified for zero-fall application, giving designers greater design freedom and making it the ideal solution for flat roofs, green roofs, podiums and terraces. Our TPO membrane also has a unique feature, being certified for potable water collection.”

The team’s hands-on approach to waterproofing support is much needed in the New Zealand context, Chris says. “We’re a young country when it comes to construction, and our topography, geography and climate can make waterproofing very challenging. What works elsewhere might not work here – I’ve had discussions with architects where I’ve had to tell them that the thing they’re asking for won’t actually be good for their project.

“Because of our established, long-standing position in the market, customers ring us for guidance and trust us to provide the right advice. With early contractor involvement, we can start waterproofing discussions before an architect even puts pen to paper. Other suppliers don’t do that because, ultimately, the job is not yet guaranteed at that stage, but we believe that’s what’s needed to get the best result for the project.” “We deal with site engineers, main contractors, and developers, encompassing that whole ecosystem in terms of the building and construction phase,” Tony adds. “We’re not just a supplier; we’re very engaged in every step of the process, doing for free what many companies pay consultants to do.”

This early involvement is especially important in a high-risk sector that is sometimes misunderstood and not strictly regulated, Chris says. “Waterproofing has really been ignored in terms of adjustments to building codes and conditions, even though our environment here is changing daily.” “The New Zealand Building Code guidelines around waterproofing are actually fairly loose,” Cristine adds. “This allows businesses to be quite flexible in the language that they use about their products and what they do. At Allco, we go the opposite direction. We are setting the benchmark for both below-ground waterproofing and roofing systems, so we’re always clarifying, making sure that the understanding around our products is detailed and clear. The education and transparency we provide are a real point of difference for us.”

2025 marks a huge milestone for Allco, as the team celebrates 50 years in business. They attribute their success and longevity to the agility of being privately New Zealand-owned and operated, as well as their laser focus on their speciality. “By sticking to our core category, providing great customer service, and standing by our products, we’ve been able to become the authority on what we do,” Tony says.

“We’re planning to add to our established membranes with new waterproofing products,” Cristine says, “and to really push further into the roofing market. Allco is still mostly known for our underground tanking, but we’ve worked in roofing for more than a decade. There are others who have been in the roofing space for longer, but we know their offer isn’t as strong.”

50 years on, Allco remains committed to meeting the industry with both hands-on project support and educational content. They are proud to have a range of CPD presentations available on Teulo covering both tanking and roofing. “The knowledge around what we do has really ramped up as a result of our CPD content,” Chris says. “We’re seeing a better fundamental understanding of how water wants to get through things, and we’re happy to bring New Zealand insights from changes that we’re seeing overseas.”

“The education, the support, the certifications – they’re all about protecting exactly what’s important to you,” Cristine says. “For an owner, that might be their investment. For a developer, it could be their construction schedule or their bottom line. In every case, Allco is bringing the right product for the right solution.”
